The tagging structure at the Archive Of Our Own is very cool in theory, and frustratingly opaque in practice. Especially in the RPF sections. As a wrangler for the fake news tags, I figured I'd post some information.

(Disclaimer: none of this is mandatory or set in stone, because that's not how the AO3 rolls. It's just a rundown of "how things are set up right now.")

I feel like doing image prompts this weekend. Take any of the following pictures, use them to spark a story:

This weekend's theme is alternate universes. You know the drill -- name an AU you'd like to see, or volunteer to take AU prompts. If you don't feel like writing out the whole thing, try doing the casting instead. (Someone has to have opinions on which correspondent gets which role in an Avengers AU, right?)

Book cover

Things I Did Not Know: former TDS correspondent Mo Rocca's compilation of fake information about White Houses, All The Presidents' Pets, is actual writing. It's not loosely organized bits of cleverness spiced up with graphics and font choices (in the vein of TDS writer Rob Kutner's Apocalypse Howe), nor even an almanac with encyclopedia entries broken up by charts (as in the Hodgman compendium of Complete World Knowledge). It's a narrative. It's a full fictional story, recounted in the first person.

It's also RPF.

Not just about the eponymous presidents, either. Mo's journey takes him to meet all sorts of contemporary pundits and newspeople, in deeply cracky incarnations. (Also surprisingly violent at points, so fair warning.) For instance, Wolf Blitzer:

For a good two years now I've been meaning to write up a proper set of Thoughts On TDS/TCR Characters in Hogwarts Houses. And now it actually exists! With links to relevant clips and everything:

I just added a bunch more pictures to The Zen and the Damaged's gallery, including so many of Kristen that I felt it called for a picspam.

Followed are a sample of my favorites, in which "favorite" is largely judged by "how exuberantly Kristen's limbs are flailing".

It's [community profile] three_weeks_for_dw time again! Which means it's prompt fest season on Dreamwidth. Here are some fakenews/pundit-friendly fests currently running:

+ Transfic Mini Fest #3
+ Female Character Trope Fest #2

Go; prompt; write! And if you have links to more such events, please share =)

Fake news fandom was starting to feel under-analyzed in comparison with pundit fandom, so I made some pie charts.

The numbers are taken from [livejournal.com profile] fakenews_fanfic's tag list. I focused on the pairings that were specifically TDS/TCR-related (so no Anderson, Keith, or Rachel), and limited it to tags that had 10 or more uses.

Chart 1 has all the pairings except Jon/Stephen and Jon/"Stephen". Loosely grouped and color-coordinated, so you can see what areas of fandom get the most focus.

Charts! )

You can see why I left them off the first chart -- half the other pairings wouldn't even have been visible! There's more Jon/Stephen than everything except "Stephen"/Jon put together, and that's just at FNFF, not even attempting to include the many years when [livejournal.com profile] tds_rps was active and also J/S-dominated. (The inclusion of TDS_RPS would likely do other interesting things to the data, particularly the Rob/Ed and Steve/Stephen numbers...but a proper analysis would take more time than I have.)

So, yeah...this is what you get instead of a prompt thread this weekend. Discuss at will!

I'm re-opening [community profile] andthatstheword. Because if there's going to be a fake news DW comm where I end up doing 99% of the posting, it may as well be the one where I like the name.

Which is not to say that other people can't participate! All DW users, whether you have a real account or just OpenID access, are welcome to join and post in both [community profile] andthatstheword and [community profile] punditfic. The former is for in-character TDS/TCR fics (that is, no real!Stephen, unless he's somehow meeting "Stephen"). The latter is for...whatever you feel like posting, really. Although fans of the real-news pundits are also encouraged to check out [community profile] thosestoriesplus, home of the real action in that corner of the fandom.

Oh, and whatever corner of the fake news/real news/pundit/politics/etcetera general mish mash you hail from, do check out [community profile] punditkink! There are several lovely fics, and loads of prompts just waiting to be filled.

A thoughtful examination of the different facets of Stephen's character, as illuminated through his interactions with people who represent a variety of personality types and relative positions to his own.

...either that, or a bit of gratuitous slutty!"Stephen" fic. You decide.

(Interesting tone I'm setting for the year, here. ¬_¬)
